사람은 첫인상만으로는 알 수 없다?

첫인상으로 사람을 판단하지 말라는 말이 있습니다. 사람의 인상은 변하기 때문입니다. 그러나 사람은 일박적으로 첫인상을 중요하게 생각합니다. 예를 들어 봅시다.

성격까지 똑같은 쌍둥이 형제 '명수' 와 '진수'가 자기 소개를 하고 있습니다.

"제 이름은 면수입니다. 저는 부지런하고 약속을 잘 키는 사람입니다. 하지만 성격기 급해서 실수를 하기도 합니다."

"저는 진수라고 합니다.급한 성격 때문에 실수를 많이 합니다. 하지만 부지런하고 약속을 중요하게 생각하는 사람입니다."

두 사람 중에서 누가 더 좋은 젓인상을 줄 수 있을까요? 물론 명수입니다. 먼저 알게 된 정보가 나중에 안 정보보다 중요하기 때문입니다. 처응에 좋은 인상을 준 사람은 작은 잘 못을 해도 쉽게 이해 받을 수 있습니다. 그러나 첫인상이 나쁜 사람은 그렇지 않습니다.

첫 만남이나 면접에서 따뜻한 인상을 주려고 노력합시다. 그것이 한번 만들어지 나쁜 첫인상을 지우느라고 고생하는 것보다 훨씬 쉬우니까요.

주걸륜 월드 투어 2007/08

It's Jay Chou's third stage appearance in Singapore. Since his last concert in December 2004, he finally came back after a long 3 years. This time, he spent his birthday week 18-19 January singing for us. Needless to say, the Indoor stadium was jam-packed with no seats left untaken.

As usual, Jay showed off his talents on the piano, guitar and... guzheng! Impressive! The concert was a feast for the eyes of his audience as he entertained us with his dance moves. Passable!

Sadly, his song list did not include 蒲公英的约定, a song which I like in his latest album...

Our I2 class is finally conducted by 민연현 선생님 today. I was pleasantly surprised that our class grew larger, with 4 new faces -- 2 who downgraded from A1 class, 1 New Zealander whose wife is a Korean and lastly a student who joined us from NUS Extension. So now our class has 10 students!

연현 선생님 speaks only Korean with minimal English in class. It's been a long while since I have my classes taught in Korean. Previous 2 levels were taught mainly in English.

I'm still trying to get used to 연현 선생님's teaching style... she likes us to compose sentences in our mind without writing on paper. Personally, I feel more confident scribbling down but I do agree that this is good training ground to get us to think and speak impromptu...

식객 영화를 본 후...

I caught the Korean movie 'Le Grand Chef 식객' yesterday. Inspired by the phenomenally popular comic series of the same name, this movie revolves around a fierce cooking competition.



I initially thought there should be a fair bit of cooking scenes but to my disappointment, they were mostly fast forwarded. Nontheless I did enjoy the movie. I was greatly touched when the chef decided to sacrifice his cow for the competition.

After watching, I decided....

I'm abstaining from beef for 1 month!

I2 수업을 처음 인상

I just finished 2 classes of Intermediate 2 Korean this week. In total, there are 6 of students for this level, with 2 newcomers from other schools.

Interestingly, our teacher couldn't teach us this week so we had a relief teacher 민연주 선생님 for the first 2 classes. 민연주 선생님 is the younger sister of the current Elementary 2 teacher, 민연현 . 연주 선생님 taught the Advance 2 class last semester but this semester she has taken a short break as she will be travelling a lot on business trips.

Somehow I didn't enjoy my classes at all. A classmate and I both felt that the relief teacher wasn't committed in teaching us ~ perhaps she was just relieving the class. Today at 8.30pm, she told us she's very hungry. So we suggested ending the class early. We weren't learning anything productive anyway. She was just merely going through the first page of the workbook and before that reading a passage from the textbook. But she went like.... 안 되요!

I was thinking... if you didn't have that thought of ending early, why did you tell us you are hungry? Nonetheless our class ended 10 minutes early.

Well I hope if I do have a chance to continue my studies to Advance 2, I will change my impression of this teacher. Sadly, first impression does count! 첫인상이 중요합니다!

I2 수업 이번 수요일에 시작한다!

I received a call from the Singapore Korean School this afternoon.
Apparently, there weren't enough students to start I2 class but the principal gave in to start the class for this semester anyway.

So the new I2 class will be on Wednesday and Friday instead of the usual Tuesday Thursday.
이번 학기에 스트레스를 많이 받을 거예요...

January is going to be a dry month!

I have 4 birthdays including my dear mother's and 2 weddings of which one is my Korean friend, Ikumi. She's getting married on 19 January.

2008 안녕!

After resting for a week half, I'm finally going back to work tomorrow. I'm rather proud of myself for accomplishing everything on my to-do list. My room is now clean and dust-free. I certainly hope it stays that way through to Chinese New Year!

And.... I have finally uploaded my Greece pictures! I managed to sort out my 600+ pictures which I have taken early December.
